Possibilities of diagnosis and development of partial functions in preschool children with hearing impairment
Háková, Kateřina ; Kotvová, Miroslava (advisor) ; Komorná, Marie (referee)
The thesis explores the possibilities of diagnosing and developing partial functions in preschool-aged children with hearing impairments considering the importance of these skills for acquiring basic school competencies such as reading, writing, and counting. Children with this type of impairment constitute a specific group that may face difficulties in obtaining information from the auditory environment, affecting the acquisition of necessary knowledge and skills. The aim of the thesis is to describe currently used diagnostic tools for working with preschool-aged children with hearing impairments. A secondary objective is to assess whether and to what extent any improvements in the test results can be observed during controlled activities compared to periods when such activities were not conducted. Realized six-month research included initial diagnostics of partial functions, subsequent controlled activities focused on their development, and final testing of selected children with hearing impairments. Based on evaluation and analysis of the obtained data, conclusions of the thesis provide recommendations for a diagnostic approach and support for the development of preschool-aged children with hearing impairments. Life of a family with a child with hearing impairment before, during and after cochlear
TUZOVÁ, Aneta
The bachelor thesis looks at the family with a hearing impaired child who is the user of a cochlear implant. It aims to find out the opinions, attitudes and feelings of parents before, during and after cochlear implantation. A cochlear implant is a technical aid that enables people with severe hearing impairment not only to perceive the sound, but also to understand the speech, and to improve or create their own speech skills. It has become hope where the hearing aids are not enough. Cochlear implantation is currently being carried out bilaterally. A candidate for cochlear implantation has to meet a number of conditions. Cochlear implantation is a process that is demanding both for a child with hearing impairment and his family. In order to meet the goal, qualitative research was carried out with four communication partners the mothers of children who have already undergone cochlear implantation. The data obtained during uncontrolled conversations with communication partners was processed using the focus group method, and subsequently evaluated. The research has brought a number of interesting facts mapping attitudes, feelings, and last but not least mother emotions during implantation. It turned out that for the communication partners the process of cochlear implantation was difficult, they did not feel informed sufficiently, they did not know what implant to choose, and during cooperation with some experts they lacked empathy, observation and also human approach. They have not always been supported by their families. The misleading views of some of the experts they met were not an exception. The results of the bachelor thesis can be benefit for parents who are considering the cochlear implantation for their child and lacking information, or to the general public who is interested in getting more information about this problem.
